Police Officers protect the public, build community trust, and respond to emergencies. They patrol neighborhoods, investigate crimes and accidents, handle emotionally disturbed individuals, and manage large events. Officers secure evidence, issue summonses, prepare reports, and testify in court—all while upholding professionalism, integrity, and public service values.
School Safety Agents maintain order and safety in public schools. They screen for prohibited items, respond to emergencies and altercations, monitor security systems, and enforce school rules. Agents manage building access, assist staff and students, write reports, and may testify at hearings or in court.
Traffic Enforcement Agents patrol assigned areas to enforce parking and traffic regulations. They issue summonses, report hazardous conditions or broken meters, operate radios and vehicles, and may testify in hearings or court. Agents help maintain traffic flow and public safety through consistent enforcement and observation.
Auxiliary Police Officers support the Police Department by patrolling neighborhoods, subways, and special events. They assist with traffic control, crime prevention, and non-enforcement duties. Training includes CPR, self-defense, patrol procedures, and NYS law. Candidates must pass both written and physical exams to complete the program. Their roll in the Police Department is Voluntary.
