What Auxiliary Officers Do

Auxiliary Police Officers assist the NYPD by:

Patrolling housing, residential, commercial, and transit areas
Supporting at parades, street fairs, and major events
Providing traffic control at accident or fire scenes
Helping with crime prevention initiatives
Conducting community outreach and visibility patrols
Acting as “eyes and ears” while observing and reporting non-hazardous conditions

Auxiliary Requirements

Be at least 17 years old
Be a U.S. citizen, lawful resident, or authorized to work in the U.S.
Live in NYC or select surrounding counties
Be of good moral character and in good health
Speak, read, and write English
Possess a NYS ID or Driver’s License
Pass a background check and drug screening
